International eye-surgery Missions

International eye-surgery Missions

UKEH’s International eye-surgery Missions extend its commitment to eye health beyond India, serving communities in countries such as Bangladesh, Nepal, Kenya, The Gambia, and Zambia. Led by Dr. K.V. Ravishankar, these missions have provided vital ophthalmic care to underserved populations worldwide

Mission Activties:

  • Surgical Service Missions: UKEH volunteers perform a wide range of surgeries, from cataracts to more complex pediatric cases. These camps serve individuals who otherwise have no access to specialized eye care.
  • Training Local Professionals: The missions include training sessions for local healthcare professionals on advanced ophthalmic techniques, fostering self-reliance and strengthening local healthcare systems.
  • Donation of Equipment and Resources: Each mission involves providing critical medical equipment and resources to local hospitals, enabling them to sustain their services.

Impact:
Over the past 23 years, UKEH’s international missions have provided over 2,000 free adult surgeries and 220 pediatric surgeries. The missions have also facilitated partnerships with local health organizations, ensuring lasting impacts and ongoing improvements in eye care.
